Harvard University’s School of Medicine is where Dr. Monaco received his medical education. He devoted his entire professional life to the practice of clinical and experimental organ transplantation as well as research in the field of immunology. In 1968, he established the organ transplantation service in the Harvard Division of the Boston City Hospital. This service later evolved into the Transplant Division at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, which is currently considered to be one of the most reputable transplant centers in the world.

Reading, skiing, and quality time with his family were some of Dr. Monaco’s favorite activities. Dr. Monaco was a charter member of the ASTS and went on to become the organization’s 12th President during the 1985–1986 term.
