2. Alex J Smith Death, of  Palestine – Obituary

Bishop Alex J. Smith, SR was brought into the world on February 2, 1929 in Palestine, Arkansas by his parents, Luella and Oscar White. Alex was adopted by Deacon Frank Smith after his mother remarried in 1932, and he became Alex’s legal father. Alex made a profession of faith in Christ at a young age, and at the age of twelve, he received salvation. Along with his parents, he was a member of the Goodwin Church of God in Christ, which is located in Goodwin, Arkansas. He had a deep love for the Lord, and he enjoyed worshiping Him through song. Singing in a quartet was one of the things that brought him the most delight throughout his life.

Alex, age 19, had the pleasure of meeting a lovely young lady by the name of Addie Mae Freeman in Jericho, Arkansas, where he was signing autographs. They tied the knot on July 4, 1948, and their union was blessed with fifteen offspring, nine of them were male and six of whom were female. When Alex was a young adult, he helped out on the family farm alongside his father, Deacon Frank. In subsequent years, while working on the farm, he damaged his back while carrying up a big log, which resulted in his having to have extensive, excruciating surgery and led to him being classified as disabled. Alex decided that he would not allow anything to prevent him from providing for his family, so he trained himself in the art of shoe repair.  Read  more
