Active Shooter Response Class in Vestal

Active Shooter Response Class in Vestal

The Vestal Police Department, Town of Vestal and Jewish Federation of Greater Binghamton are hosting a training on how to respond to an active shooter situation next week.

In a posting on social media, Vestal Police were calling for advance registration for the presentation on June 23 at 6:30 p.m.

Police ask “What would you do if you found yourself in the middle of a violent situation? Do you have a plan? Are you prepared to act to save yourself and/or others?”

Organizers say many mass shootings or active attack events are over before police arrive. They say civilians in a situation must be prepared to act before help gets to them.

During the “How to Respond to an Active Shooter Situation” presentation, those in attendance will hear some history of active attack events and how people behave in high-stress situations. The material covers being prepared in any situation whether it be work, at church, school or a movie theater, anywhere a situation could suddenly develop.

According to the Vestal Police posting, The program is designed to provide civilians with knowledge that will empower and instill the confidence to survive an active shooter attack whether at work, church, the movie theater or anywhere else they may be. It is not intended to frighten, but to empower and strengthen a person’s ability to survive.”

Due to the seriousness of the content of the presentation, attendees must be at least 18 years of age to attend.

The event Thursday, June 23 at Temple Israel in Vestal is free. Seating is limited.  Participants are asked to wear a face mask. For information and to register, go online to  www.jfgb.org.
